Wooden floors are hard-wearing, robust and durable. With a little maintenance, your hardwood floor covering will never lose its sheen. There are a variety of products available in the market that make floor cleaning a simple task. However, not every product can enhance the looks of your floor.

Here are some useful tips that will help you to buy the best hardwood floor care products:

You should bear in mind that different floor surfaces need different types of products. For instance, Murphy oil soap is good for sealed wooden floors, but not for stained floors. Similarly, floors with polyurethane coat require different kinds of cleansers as compared to waxed floors.

Always buy only those hardwood floor care products that are specifically recommended for your floor type. Stringently follow the cleaning guidelines. Before using the cleanser, conditioner or sealer, read the label carefully. It shouldn’t contain any kind of harmful chemicals and dyes.

Instead of relying solely on hardwood floor care products, it is advisable to use home-made cleansers and conditioners. For example, in a bucket of warm water add 1/4 cup of liquid dish-wash soap. This mild solution will effectively remove all the dirt from your floor with harming it in any manner. Baking soda and natural citrus solvents can also be used for cleaning purposes.

Remember, prevention is always better than cure. So, regularly clean the floor surface with a soft-bristle broom and vacuum cleaner. Cover those regions of the floor that are exposed to excessive traffic with runners and area rugs. At all the entrances place doormats that are not rubber backed. Lastly, put protection pads under the legs of all chairs and tables.
